Laser Cutting Veneer

The fragility of the veneer makes this difficult to do, but there must be a way.

Veneer seems to have become associated with cheap furniture, but I tend to relate these thin slivers of expensive wood architectural scale models and intricate marquetry work.

I’ve had a pile of exotic hardwood veneer samples lying around for years, so I thought I would try laser cutting it.

Here’s my first attempt.

Each wood burns at different rates so there is a lot of experimenting to do with laser speed and power to determine the best settings.
